Noel Edmonds faced criticism online after he set free live lobsters from a shop tank into Peel Harbour in the Isle of Man.

The former host of the television show “Deal or No Deal,” aged 77, shared a peculiar incident on social media. He mentioned feeling uneasy seeing the lobsters in the tank, prompting him and his wife to intervene.

In a video posted on Instagram, Noel explained, “We were in a place where lobsters were kept in a tank, and we felt uneasy about it. So, we purchased the lobsters and Liz is now releasing them.” His wife gently released the two lobsters into the sea.

He further added, “Peel Harbour has crystal clear water. Look at them go! We witnessed a seal passing by a moment ago. Such a beautiful place.”

The post’s caption conveyed, “We hold a deep love and respect for all creatures, no matter their size.” The post ignited what some followers humorously refer to as “lobstergate.”

Although Noel has disabled comments on the post, earlier feedback from followers raised concerns about the release of captive lobsters into the sea due to potential risks to the native lobster population.

The Isle of Man Farmshop responded to Noel’s actions on social media. The owner, Matt Harrison, clarified that the lobsters sold in the shop are locally caught and replenished every two weeks. He defended the shop’s decision to sell live lobsters, emphasizing the support for local businesses.

While contemplating whether to continue selling live lobsters, Matt assured that the lobsters in their care are healthy. Customers will still have the option to purchase lobsters from other locations along the Peel seafront.
