A major search operation is currently ongoing for a 13-year-old boy who went missing while swimming along the East Yorkshire coast. The incident occurred in Hornsea around 6pm yesterday when the boy encountered difficulties in the water.

Multiple emergency services, including Hornsea Inshore Rescue, HM Coastguard, and Humberside Police, are actively participating in the search effort. The RNLI’s Bridlington all-weather lifeboat has also been launched to assist in the operation.

Chief Superintendent Phil Booker emphasized the priority of locating the missing boy. Specialist teams such as Police Search Advisors, the Marine Unit, and drone pilots have been deployed to conduct an extensive search and rescue mission.

Chief Superintendent Phil Booker urged the public to avoid the area to facilitate the work of emergency services and refrain from speculating on the circumstances of the incident.

This search comes shortly after a tragic incident in east London where a 14-year-old boy drowned in the Millwall Outer Dock. With the UK experiencing a heatwave, people have been flocking to beaches, leading to a series of water-related incidents. Since the start of the summer holidays, nine individuals, including four children, have lost their lives in such incidents, according to new statistics.

The warm weather has posed serious dangers around open water, as highlighted by Met Police Detective Superintendent Oliver Richter. It is essential to only swim in designated areas and educate children and young individuals about water safety.
