An incident at Leipzig/Halle Airport in Germany led to the closure of the southern runway following the discovery of a drone suspected to carry an explosive device near a Ukrainian Antonov cargo plane. The drone, found late at night, prompted authorities to conduct thorough investigations using explosives-disposal techniques.

Additionally, there were reports of an unidentified flying object that may be connected to the incident, currently under investigation. Subsequently, a DHL cargo plane had to abort its landing due to the runway closure. During this diversion, the plane reportedly encountered an unknown object about 400 meters above the ground, resulting in damage that was later observed upon landing in Hanover.

Recent unauthorized drone activities in various locations throughout Germany, including military bases, ports, logistics centers, and energy facilities, have put airports on high alert. In response to the incident at Leipzig/Halle Airport, a bomb disposal unit was dispatched following the discovery of the drone, which was carrying an explosive material mass with a defective detonator, preventing a detonation.

Although there were initial plans for a controlled detonation by the German Federal Police, media sources now indicate that the drone and its package will undergo further examination for potential evidence in a specialized container. NATO investigators are also expected to participate in the ongoing investigation, particularly due to the proximity of four Ukrainian aircraft to the drone bomb. Despite the ongoing inquiries, passenger flights at the airport have not been disrupted, as confirmed by German media reports.
