Hotel owner faces court over fatal fall at X Factor star’s hotel

A hotel manager has been brought before the court on charges related to health and safety violations following the tragic death of the partner of a former X Factor contestant. Jaymi Hensley, known for his participation in the ITV show as part of boyband Union J in 2011, was engaged to stylist Olly Marmon. Sadly, Marmon passed away after falling from the third floor of the Hind Hotel in Wellingborough, Northants, at the age of 33 in August 2024, despite efforts by emergency responders who arrived at the scene at 11:30 pm that night.

The hotel owner, Marcus de Lannoy Holden, aged 57 and residing in Shennington, Banbury, Oxon, appeared in Northampton Magistrates’ Court in July on allegations that the windows in the hotel posed a safety hazard to guests. The charges against Holden included failure to ensure the proper operation of windows to prevent risks to health and safety, as well as not conducting a risk assessment of all windows in the hotel to prevent falls.

Furthermore, Holden faced accusations of neglecting the health and safety of his employees and failing to protect them from potential risks. During the court appearance, Holden did not enter a plea and was granted bail to seek legal advice, with the case adjourned until October.

Olly, a hairdresser who also worked in gardening alongside his stepdad, met Jaymi at a young age. The couple, who had been together for 15 years, were nearing their wedding at the time of the tragic incident. Olly’s family paid heartfelt tributes to him, describing him as caring, loving, and always putting others first. His brother Ben shared emotional words, highlighting Olly’s joyful and creative nature, emphasizing his impact on others’ lives and expressing immense pride and friendship.
