In a recent auction, a lightsaber featuring Luke Skywalker’s severed hand from the movie “The Empire Strikes Back” was sold for a record-breaking $3.75 million USD, marking the highest price ever paid for a prop used in a “Star Wars” film. Now, enthusiasts have the opportunity to acquire the lightsaber responsible for the iconic severing.
One of the standout items at the upcoming Ultimate Star Wars Auction by Heritage Auctions on November 12 is the Darth Vader lightsaber used in the pivotal duel in Cloud City, where the famous revelation “I am your father” takes place. This lightsaber, also seen in “Return of the Jedi,” is anticipated to fetch a minimum of $1 million USD. The auction will feature over two dozen lightsaber props from the entire “Star Wars” saga, covering Episodes I to IX, alongside props from other productions within the George Lucas universe.
Among the items up for bidding are the lightsabers wielded by Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi and Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker in “Revenge of the Sith,” each expected to sell for at least $10,000 USD. Additionally, an EE-3 carbine blaster used by Boba Fett in “The Empire Strikes Back” is projected to command over $100,000 USD.
Noteworthy pieces in the auction include a Yoda puppet hand operated by Frank Oz in “The Empire Strikes Back,” actor Anthony Daniels’ personally signed third-draft screenplay for the original 1977 “Star Wars,” and a TIE Fighter pilot helmet featured in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”
