“Nestle’s Quality Street Brings Back Paper Tubs”

Published on

Nestle has announced a significant update to its Quality Street tubs for the second consecutive year. The renowned chocolate manufacturer has confirmed that its Quality Street chocolates will once again be packaged in paper tubs as part of Nestle’s broader initiative to make all packaging recyclable by 2025.

Last year, Nestle introduced the eco-friendly, eight-sided paper tubs, which received mixed reactions from shoppers. While some expressed a preference for the traditional tins due to their versatility, others welcomed the new design as a positive step.

Starting this October, shoppers will have the option to purchase the paper Quality Street tubs at selected Tesco stores, alongside the continued availability of plastic tubs for purchase.

A Nestle spokesperson stated, “We’re excited to announce that Quality Street will reintroduce paper tubs in selected Tesco stores this Christmas season. The brand remains attentive to customer feedback and is committed to exploring innovative ways to enhance the sustainability of its packaging.”

In a previous release, more than 200,000 paper tubs were distributed to select Tesco outlets, holding approximately 150 tonnes of Quality Street sweets collectively. The paper tubs feature a luxurious design with gold foil embellishments, a re-close feature, and are recyclable once emptied.

Quality Street made the switch from colorful plastic wrappers to recyclable paper packaging in 2022, aligning with their sustainability goals. Jemma Handley, Senior Brand Manager for Quality Street, expressed pride in being the first major manufacturer to trial paper tubs during the festive season, ensuring that the iconic sweets remain unchanged in taste and quality.

Cheryl Allen, Head of Sustainability – Confectionery Europe at Nestle, emphasized the company’s dedication to sustainable packaging solutions and continuous improvement based on consumer preferences and technological advancements. The trial of paper tubs aims to gather valuable insights for future sustainability initiatives, further reducing the use of virgin plastic in packaging.
