After the Flood is set to make a thrilling return this Sunday, January 18, with its highly anticipated second season. In the initial series, the discovery of an unidentified deceased man in a submerged parking lot following a catastrophic flood led PC Jo Marshall, portrayed by Sophie Rundle, to delve into the circumstances surrounding his demise, unraveling shocking truths along the way.

The upcoming season of After the Flood follows the newly promoted detective Jo as she embarks on a perplexing murder investigation in Waterside. Against the backdrop of escalating tensions due to moorland fires and the looming threat of additional flooding, a peculiarly positioned body is stumbled upon, setting the stage for a riveting narrative.

As Jo races against time to apprehend the perpetrator, she finds herself at odds with influential figures in the town, entangling herself in a deeply personal inquiry. To unearth and eradicate the long-standing corruption plaguing the local police force and her own family, Jo must operate covertly.

Reflecting on the filming of the new season, Sophie, 37, expressed her gratitude for the show’s renewal, citing the positive reception from viewers as validation for a second installment. The continuity of the familiar crew and the richly crafted world of the series contributed to a seamless transition into the next chapter, introducing new characters and storylines.

In a candid discussion, Sophie shared insights into balancing her acting career with motherhood, commending the flexibility provided by the production team to accommodate her parenting responsibilities. Her real-life partner, actor Matt Stokoe, who portrays detective Pat Holman in the series, plays Jo’s husband on screen. The couple shares two sons, aged four and one.

Looking ahead to the unfolding narrative of After the Flood season two, Sophie teased an intensifying storyline that delves deeper into the characters’ journeys, promising an engrossing blend of mystery and character development that will captivate audiences.

After the Flood is scheduled to air on Sundays and Mondays on ITV, starting from January 18, with all episodes available on ITVX for streaming. For the latest updates on entertainment news, visit the Everything Gossip website.
