Durham Constabulary is currently searching for a teenager as part of a murder inquiry following a fatal incident at a gas station. The police have identified Ashton Anderson, 19, as a person of interest in the case that occurred on Stockton Road, Seaham, around 4:50 pm on January 15.
A man in his twenties lost his life at the scene, where reports indicate a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle. Durham Constabulary has initiated a murder investigation and has apprehended seven individuals thus far.
Authorities have issued an appeal to locate Anderson, described as approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, slim, with short brown hair. The police have cautioned that aiding a suspect will result in severe consequences, and an increased police presence will be maintained in the vicinity.
The police statement reads: “We are seeking information regarding Ashton Anderson’s whereabouts in connection to the Seaham incident on Thursday. Following reports of a disturbance on Stockton Road, Seaham, at 4:50 pm on Thursday, January 15, officers responded to the scene.”
“A vehicle is suspected to have collided with a pedestrian at the New Seaham Service Station forecourt, leading to serious injuries to a man in his twenties. Unfortunately, he was pronounced deceased at the scene, with his family receiving support from specialized officers.”
“Durham Constabulary’s Major Crime Team has launched a murder probe, resulting in the arrest of seven individuals. Three teenage males and one man in his fifties are in custody on suspicion of murder. Additionally, one teenage woman and two women in their forties have been detained for allegedly aiding an offender.”
“Ashton Anderson, aged 19, is described as approximately 5ft10, slender, and with short brown hair. Anyone with information on his location is urged to contact Durham Police at 101, quoting incident number 281 dated January 15.”
DCI Chris Woollett stated, “I extend gratitude to the Seaham community for their cooperation during our investigations. While an enhanced police presence will be maintained in the area, there is no indication of wider public risk. Nevertheless, individuals found assisting or concealing suspects will face strict consequences. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends.”
