Robbie Williams brought up the recent Take That Netflix documentary while performing at Liverpool’s Olympia on February 6. The 51-year-old singer reflected on his portrayal in the documentary during his Long 90s tour, which drew a sold-out crowd of fewer than 2,000 fans.
In a departure from his usual large stadium shows, Robbie showcased his latest album, Britpop, in its entirety. This album, released in January, set a new record for Robbie as it became his most successful UK number one album, surpassing The Beatles, according to the Official Charts Company.
During the intimate gig, Robbie also performed his debut solo album, Life Thru a Lens, from start to finish. This album featured iconic tracks like ‘Angels’ and ‘Let Me Entertain You,’ which propelled Robbie to international stardom.
Acknowledging the Netflix documentary about Take That, Robbie engaged the audience by asking if anyone had seen it, as reported by the Liverpool Echo. He candidly expressed regret over some of his past remarks in the documentary, admitting to feeling ashamed and disappointed.
The show included exclusive archival footage spanning Take That’s 35-year career, along with new interviews featuring current members Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, and Mark Owen, as well as past members Robbie and Jason Orange. The documentary will delve into the band’s journey of success, setbacks, reconciliation, and resilience.
Formed in Manchester in 1990, Take That initially struggled to gain traction before their breakthrough with “It Only Takes a Minute” in 1992. The band skyrocketed to fame with hit albums like Everything Changes and Nobody Else, producing chart-topping singles such as “Pray,” “Relight My Fire,” and “Back for Good.”
After Robbie’s departure in 1995 due to personal challenges, the remaining members continued but eventually announced their split in 1996. Recently, Robbie gained online attention for sharing a clip from the latest Take That documentary, featuring a memorable encounter with a fan from the 1990s.
