The mother of a Deadliest Catch star who tragically passed away while filming is requesting that the footage never be made public. Todd Meadows lost his life after falling overboard off the coast of Alaska on February 25.
Described as a devastating day for the Aleutian Lady, the 25-year-old TV personality fell into the icy waters of the Bering Sea during filming for the long-standing Discovery Channel series.
In light of the revelation that cameras were recording during the incident, Todd’s mother, Angela, is urging against the airing of any footage related to the accident. She emphasized the family’s desire for the network not to profit from their son’s death and to only showcase positive memories of Todd.
In an interview with TMZ, Angela expressed her hopes that only favorable moments of Todd on the boat would be broadcast. It has been confirmed by Meadows’ bunkmate that the cameras were rolling at the time of the tragic event, while the family awaits definitive answers on the circumstances surrounding their son’s death, pending the ongoing Coast Guard investigation.
Despite the heartbreaking loss, Angela has been assured that Todd did not suffer in his final moments. She emphasized the importance of accountability, stating, “We don’t want to assign blame, but someone must be held responsible. Justice will be sought for Todd.”
The incident took place approximately 170 miles north of the coast aboard the Aleutian Lady. The Coast Guard reported that Todd fell overboard, was recovered unresponsive by the crew, and despite attempts to resuscitate him, he was ultimately transported to Dutch Harbor where he was pronounced deceased.
Captain Rick Shelford, also part of the show, shared the somber news of Meadows’ passing online, highlighting Todd’s positive attributes and his impact on the crew. Survived by his three sons, a GoFundMe page has been set up to support them, already raising over $30,000 (£22.5k).
