Two prominent figures from the 1990s Britpop scene have tied the knot. Louise Wener and Andy Maclure, known for their roles as the lead singer and drummer of the band Sleeper, respectively, have exchanged vows. Their love story began during the recording of their successful album, The It Girl, released on May 6, 1996. Over three decades later, with two children, the couple has decided to formalize their relationship.
The news of their marriage was shared on the band’s official Instagram account, featuring pictures from their wedding day and personal collection. In one snapshot, the couple is seen leaving a registry office in Brighton, hand in hand, with Louise donning a unique animal-print outfit instead of a traditional white dress, paired with cream ankle boots.
Andy complemented her look with a sharp blazer, shirt, and trousers, along with stylish trainers. Following the ceremony, guests showered them with confetti before heading to Brighton beach for photos. The announcement post on Instagram read, “30 years. You don’t want to rush into these things,” accompanied by the song “Where Is My Husband” by RAYE.
Well-wishers flooded the comments section, with Anita Rani and Miranda Sawyer expressing their congratulations and joy. The couple’s relationship history intertwines with their bandmates, Jon Stewart and Diid Osman. Louise and Andy’s romance began after Louise’s split from Jon, but they managed to maintain a close friendship.
The band, inspired by a Woody Allen film, signed with Indolent Records in 1993 and achieved success with hits like “Inbetweener.” Their music was featured in the popular movie “Trainspotting,” and they amassed eight Top 40 hits and three top 10 albums in the UK. Despite disbanding in 1998, Sleeper reunited for a series of summer performances nine years ago.
The story of Louise Wener and Andy Maclure’s marriage adds a new chapter to the legacy of the iconic Britpop band Sleeper.
