Sky Q has been a popular choice for UK viewers for more than a decade due to its recording capabilities. However, Manhattan’s latest offering, the S4-R Freesat 4K TV Recorder, presents a new competitor with a key advantage. Similar to Sky Q, the S4-R uses a satellite dish to deliver content and includes internal storage for recordings, as well as interactive TV features like live TV pausing.

One standout feature of the Manhattan S4-R is its absence of subscription fees after purchase, providing access to over 100 free TV and radio channels. While premium content like Sky Sports is not available, this box offers a cost-effective entertainment solution. The S4-R can record multiple channels simultaneously and comes with a 500GB hard drive, expandable to larger capacities for more storage. It also offers live TV control functions like pausing and rewinding broadcasts.

The device boasts a user-friendly interface, search functionality, and access to a vast library of on-demand content through various apps including BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, and My5. Manhattan’s COO, Alex Arbab-Zadeh, highlighted the enhanced recording capabilities of the S4-R, allowing up to four simultaneous recordings, double the previous limit. Described as a compelling alternative to subscription TV, the S4-R offers flexibility, choice, and cost savings.

The Manhattan S4-R is set to debut this month and will be sold at retailers such as Currys, John Lewis, Argos, and Richer Sounds. Pricing for the 500GB model starts at £219.99, with the 1TB version launching in May for £249.99, and the 2TB model arriving in June priced at £279.99.
