Barclays has revealed its decision to shut down the Barclaycard website, urging customers to transition to using the mobile app instead. The closure of the website is scheduled for June 10, as Barclays observes a growing trend of customers favoring the app for their day-to-day banking needs.
The bank has assured customers that they will eventually be able to access Barclaycard services online through the Barclays website. With over five million customer accounts in the UK, this move aims to align with the changing preferences of consumers towards digital banking solutions.
In correspondence shared on Reddit, customers were notified via email about the upcoming closure of Barclaycard online servicing on June 10, 2026. The message emphasized that while this change may come as a surprise, it will not impact account functionality or card usage. Customers were encouraged to continue managing their accounts through the Barclaycard app.
Some customers expressed frustration on social media, highlighting concerns about the shift from websites to apps. Responding to feedback, a spokesperson clarified that the transition aims to simplify services by integrating Barclaycard account management into Barclays online banking gradually.
Additionally, customers will still have access to essential account functions through the Barclaycard and Barclays apps, telephone banking, or in-branch services. This strategic move follows reports by The Times regarding Barclays’ plans to reopen branches and reintroduce traditional “bank managers” to enhance customer support.
Vim Maru, CEO of Barclays UK, emphasized the importance of providing personalized support to customers, avoiding over-reliance on automated services. Despite the closure of over 800 branches since 2018, Barclays remains committed to offering a balance of digital convenience and personalized assistance to meet customer needs effectively.
In an effort to enhance customer interaction and support, Barclays is focusing on providing a comprehensive banking experience that combines digital innovation with personalized service from dedicated bank managers.
