A man from the UK has sustained serious injuries, including a broken neck and back, following a motorcycle accident while on vacation abroad. Andrew Patterson, 29, a tree surgeon originally from Omagh, Northern Ireland, but residing in Melbourne, Australia, since 2024, was involved in a crash in Canggu, Bali. He was on a weekend trip with a friend when the incident occurred. Patterson lost control of his rented motorcycle while navigating a turn, causing him to be thrown over the handlebars and into a road sign.
As a result of the crash, Patterson suffered significant facial injuries, including cuts and fractures to his cheek, eye socket, and nose. He also sustained lacerations on his left hand that will require skin grafts, in addition to breaking vertebrae in his neck and middle back. His family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist with medical expenses and potentially facilitate his return to the UK for further treatment.
Patterson’s sister, Andrea Marsella, revealed that he is facing a challenging recovery process due to the extent of his injuries. Despite the severity of the accident, Patterson is grateful to be alive and still able to move. The family is rallying support to cover the mounting costs of emergency care, surgeries, and repatriation. They are seeking assistance from the community during this difficult period, emphasizing Patterson’s positive qualities as a beloved family member and friend.
