Weather maps are indicating the possibility of snowfall in up to 26 counties across the UK at the beginning of May, even as temperatures may reach 26C this week. The ECMWF weather model predicts snow flurries starting in northern Scotland on May 6, then moving southward to affect various regions in Scotland, England, and Northern Ireland.
By 6 pm on May 6, heavy snow is expected in Scottish mountains, with flurries also impacting central low-lying areas. Later that night, snow could fall in western parts of Northern Ireland. On May 7, snow is forecasted to fall in southern Scotland and northern England, with up to 15cm of snow potentially settling over high ground in northeast Scotland.
The ECMWF model suggests that 26 counties in England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland could experience snow over the two days. The Met Office has forecasted temperatures of up to 26C in parts of southern England on Friday, alongside a risk of thundery bursts in some areas.
Conditions are expected to become more unsettled towards the Bank Holiday weekend, with rain and showers spreading in from the southwest, potentially heavy and thundery in places. Despite the changeable weather, some warm and humid conditions are anticipated in parts of England.
