“Mother’s Gender Reveal Rage Leads to Newborn’s Murder”

Published on

A mother who viciously killed her newborn daughter was captured on video leaving her gender reveal party in a rage upon learning she was having a girl.

Nicole Blain, aged 30, was recently convicted of murdering her 19-day-old baby, Thea Jane Wilson, following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

The infant, Thea, sustained severe injuries including three skull fractures, brain damage, and eye bleeding after a violent incident at Blain’s residence in Greenock, Inverclyde, on July 14, 2023. Medical experts confirmed that the injuries were consistent with forceful shaking and repeated impact against a hard surface.

Recently released footage from Blain’s gender reveal celebration for Thea, recorded on February 7, 2023, shows her visibly upset while holding a pink knife. She can be seen arguing with a family member holding a balloon filled with either blue or pink confetti, indicating the baby’s gender. Following a burst of the balloon revealing pink confetti, Blain walks away from the scene.

Blain initially tried to conceal her daughter’s death by claiming she found Thea on the floor after waking up from a nap, and suggested that another child in the house may have been responsible for the injuries. However, a pathologist dismissed this possibility, stating that the injuries were not consistent with accidental trauma.

During the trial, Thea was described as healthy when born on June 25, 2023. Blain, who had been out on bail, was visibly distraught as she was led away in handcuffs. She is scheduled to appear in court again next month.

On the day of the incident, there were plans for Blain to take Thea to her grandmother’s house in Ayrshire. However, around 2 pm, the grandmother’s husband received a distressed call from Blain reporting the incident.

The grandmother recalled that Blain mentioned finding Thea on the floor with a head injury. Blain later tried to shift blame to another child present in the house, but medical reports confirmed that Thea’s injuries were severe and non-accidental.

Medical experts testified in court that Thea suffered extensive head trauma caused by shaking and impact with a hard surface, likening the injuries to those seen in car accident victims.

Blain professed her love for Thea in court and in messages to the baby’s grandmother. In a separate incident in June, Blain was filmed leaving her home in Renfrewshire amidst a chaotic scene involving angry individuals outside the property.

Sentencing for Blain, who had a previous minor assault conviction, has been postponed for further assessment.
