A young girl, Millie Rose Hedley, tragically passed away just a day after being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer known as acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). Her mother, Kimberley Hedley, described Millie as a beautiful and kind-hearted child. The family is now raising funds to show gratitude to the nurses who provided care to Millie during her brief illness.
Millie had been experiencing symptoms such as bone pain and extreme fatigue for about a year before her untimely death on December 22. Known for her joyful and energetic presence, Millie’s family remembered her as a loving and caring individual who brought happiness wherever she went.
Despite her struggles with frequent illnesses and medical visits, Millie’s condition deteriorated rapidly after being rushed to the hospital following vomiting episodes and an inability to keep fluids down. Doctors diagnosed her with cancer upon arrival at the emergency room. Despite efforts to treat her, Millie passed away shortly after the diagnosis.
In memory of Millie, her family is planning a fundraising drive from Newton Aycliffe to Benidorm and back in September. They aim to raise awareness about the symptoms of AML, which include pale appearance, fatigue, breathlessness, weight loss, and joint pain. The family also held a celebration of Millie’s life, where friends, loved ones, and teachers gathered to honor her memory.
