“British Infant Dies at Egyptian Resort: E. coli Tragedy”

Published on

A tragic incident occurred at a luxurious resort in Egypt, where a British infant passed away and two other children fell seriously ill. One-year-old Ariella Mann contracted E. coli during her vacation, which progressed into a rare kidney condition known as Haemolytic Uraemic Syndrome (HUS), ultimately leading to her untimely death. Seeking answers, Ariella’s parents have engaged legal counsel to investigate the cause of their daughter’s health complications.

Accompanied by her family, including her parents and six-year-old sister, Ariella embarked on her holiday to Egypt on December 21 last year. Despite a £6,000 all-inclusive package, Ariella’s health deteriorated during the second week of the trip, manifesting in symptoms such as fever, diarrhoea, vomiting, and dehydration. Despite receiving treatment at the resort’s medical facility, her condition worsened, prompting an early return home on January 5. Subsequently, Ariella was admitted to a specialized children’s hospital and placed in a medically induced coma. Tragically, HUS claimed her life three days later.

The other affected children, two-year-old Chloe Crook from Kent and six-year-old Arthur Broughton from Derbyshire, also suffered from HUS after their stays at the Jaz Makadi Aquaviva resort in Hurghada from July 2024 to January 2026. While both survived the ordeal, they are still in the recovery phase. These vacations were organized through TUI UK Limited, currently investigating the incidents.

Chloe Crook’s ordeal involved severe gastric symptoms leading to her hospitalization in Egypt, where she experienced temporary loss of vision and speech, seizures, and kidney failure due to E. coli-induced HUS. She was later airlifted to a London hospital, placed in a coma, and faced further health complications before being discharged.

Similarly, Arthur Broughton fell ill during a family holiday at the same resort in August last year, developing symptoms that led to an E. coli infection, HUS, and subsequent intensive care treatment. Despite being discharged after three weeks, Arthur continues to struggle with kidney issues, necessitating daily medication and rehabilitation efforts.

Legal representation for the affected families emphasizes the need for answers and specialized support to cope with the aftermath of these tragic events. TUI expressed condolences for Ariella’s passing and acknowledged the distressing impact on the families. The company is collaborating with relevant authorities to investigate the reported illnesses and is providing assistance to affected customers.
