Boyzone member Ronan Keating recently shared his ongoing struggle with grief over the loss of his bandmate, Stephen Gately, who passed away tragically 17 years ago. Keating, along with Keith Duffy, Mikey Graham, and Shane Lynch, performed emotional reunion concerts in London without Gately, who died unexpectedly in 2009 due to a heart condition.
In a heartfelt conversation with the Mirror, Keating expressed his deep sense of loss, emphasizing that Gately’s absence is keenly felt, especially during their performances together. The bond between Keating and Gately was strong, with Keating describing Gately’s public coming out in 1999 as an act of immense courage.
The pain of losing Gately is compounded by Keating’s personal tragedies, including the loss of his older brother in a car accident in 2023. Reflecting on their shared history, Keating revealed that the song “Father & Son” holds significant meaning for him, resonating even more deeply as he navigates fatherhood and now, grandfatherhood.
Despite the passage of time, Keating remains youthful at heart, embracing his upcoming 50th birthday with a sense of calm. Excited about his solo projects and upcoming performances, Keating looks forward to engaging with newer audiences while cherishing the memories created over the years with Boyzone.
As Keating prepares for a headline performance at Deva Fest in Cheshire, he anticipates a joyous celebration of music and shared experiences with fans. The festival’s founder, Phil Marston, expressed enthusiasm over the festival’s diverse lineup, promising a memorable experience for attendees.
Deva Fest is scheduled to take place from 6–9 August 2026 at Cholmondeley Castle Gardens, Cheshire. For tickets and additional information, visit www.devafest.co.uk.
