In recent times, the show has bid farewell to some familiar faces. In June, the esteemed actor Michael Byrne passed away at the age of 82. He was most notably known for his portrayal of Ted Page, Gail Platt’s long-lost father, who reappeared in her life after five decades, as reported by the Daily Star. Michael had the honor of walking Gail down the aisle at her wedding before his character’s departure from the show in 2021.
Apart from his role in Coronation Street, Michael also made a mark in the Harry Potter franchise and featured in notable films such as Tomorrow Never Dies, Braveheart, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and Gangs of New York.
In May, director Kay Patrick, who directed over 250 episodes of the series during her 21-year tenure starting in 1994, passed away at 84. Her funeral, held in June, encouraged attendees to dress casually to honor her memory.
