Family of Murdered Teen Seeks Justice After Weapon Cover-Up

The family of Henry Nowak, a murdered teenager, has released a statement following the imprisonment of Vickrum Digwa’s mother for removing the knife used in the killing of the 18-year-old from the crime scene.

Kiran Kaur, aged 53, from St Denys Road, Southampton, was sentenced to three years in jail at Southampton Crown Court for aiding an offender by taking the weapon to their family home on the night of the incident on December 3, 2025. Kaur was found guilty by jurors in May and has been in custody for over seven months since her arrest.

Expressing their disappointment, Henry’s family accepted the sentencing decision but emphasized their unwavering commitment to seeking justice for Henry. They stated their determination to ensure that all ongoing investigations thoroughly uncover the truth surrounding the events of last December and urged the government to make necessary changes in honor of their late son.

On June 1, Digwa, aged 23, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 21 years for Henry’s murder. Digwa had falsely accused Henry of racially abusing him.

During the trial, it was revealed that CCTV footage helped recover the knife, identified as the murder weapon a week after the crime. The court heard that Kaur’s actions were pivotal in removing the murder weapon as the police arrived at the scene.

In sentencing Kaur, Judge William Mousley KC remarked that a responsible parent would have confronted their child about their actions and encouraged them to do the right thing. Instead, Kaur took the knife home and concealed it among other weapons in her son’s room to avoid his capture.

Kaur’s defense attorney, Mark Watson, argued that her actions were not premeditated but a spontaneous response to hearing about her son’s attack. He highlighted Kaur’s positive character and community involvement before the incident as he appealed for a suspended sentence.

Throughout the mitigation process, Kaur, supported by a Punjabi interpreter, showed emotion in court. A full inquest into Henry’s death is scheduled to take place in Winchester next year.
