At least six individuals lost their lives and numerous others sustained injuries following a tragic accident involving a tourist shuttle bus in central Italy. The incident occurred when the bus collided head-on with a camper van and two cars on the Terni-Rieti road, close to the Umbria and Lazio region border. Reports from Umbria regional authorities confirmed the details of the collision.

Stefania Proietti, the regional president, disclosed that out of the 34 individuals injured, six were in critical condition while two others were receiving treatment for severe injuries, as per the Italian news agency ANSA. The shuttle bus was en route to the Marmore Falls, an ancient Roman waterfall near Terni, when the tragic event unfolded.

Proietti characterized the crash as a “catastrophic” mass-casualty incident, prompting the immediate activation of the regional emergency protocol upon receiving the initial distress call. The injured victims were promptly transported to hospitals in Terni, Perugia, Spoleto, Foligno, and Rieti for urgent medical attention.

Among the fatalities, two individuals were identified as residents of Massa Martana. Mayor Francesco Persiani conveyed his condolences, expressing deep sorrow for the loss of Paolo Cosci and Graziella Baldini in the tragic accident along the Terni–Rieti highway. The entire community was deeply affected by this unfortunate event.
