“Iran Warns US and Israel Amid Protests”

Published on

Iran has issued a caution that the US and Israel might be considered “legitimate targets” if President Donald Trump decides to attack the Islamic Republic, raising concerns about a potential escalation of conflict. The ongoing nationwide protests in Iran against the ruling theocracy have entered their second week, with demonstrations taking place in major cities resulting in at least 116 reported deaths.

Due to internet restrictions and severed phone lines within Iran, obtaining accurate information about the situation has become increasingly difficult. Nonetheless, reports from the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency indicate a rising death toll and approximately 2,600 individuals detained.

In response to Trump’s threats, Iran’s parliament speaker has warned that any US military action against Iran could lead to retaliatory measures against the US and Israel. This statement was made amidst chants of “Death to America!” by Iranian lawmakers during a parliamentary session.

There are concerns that the communication blackout in Iran could lead to harsh crackdowns by security forces, despite Trump’s statements in support of peaceful protesters and his readiness to intervene. Reports suggest that Trump has been presented with military options for a potential strike on Iran, although no final decision has been made yet.

The State Department has issued a strong message, emphasizing President Trump’s resolve in following through on his statements. Meanwhile, Iranian state television broadcasted a parliamentary session where conservative figures praised security forces for their response to the protests and issued warnings to potential aggressors.

Although threats have been made against the US and Israel, it remains uncertain if Iran is seriously considering an attack, especially considering past conflicts and the ultimate decision-making authority resting with Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The US military has affirmed its readiness to defend its interests in the region, given previous incidents of Iranian aggression towards American forces.

Footage from Iran, including scenes of protests and clashes, circulated online, depicting the gravity of the situation. The unrest has spread to various cities, with reports of escalating tensions and security presence in key locations. Iranian state broadcasters have started showcasing pro-regime events in response to the escalating dissent.

In the midst of the unrest, exiled Iranian Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi has called for continued demonstrations and urged supporters to assert their presence in public spaces. The protests initially sparked by economic hardships have evolved into broader anti-government demonstrations challenging Iran’s ruling authorities.
