Renowned Cookery Expert Prue Leith, 85, Rejects Traditional Exercises

Published on

Renowned cookery expert Prue Leith, at the age of 85, candidly expresses her disdain for traditional exercises like push-ups and pilates, labeling them as forms of torture. She finds the idea of exercising solely for the sake of it to be both painful and dreadfully dull.

In her latest book “Being Old…And Learning to Love It,” released on February 26, Prue, who lives in Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire with her husband John Playfair, sheds light on her aversion to conventional workout routines. She humorously describes activities like running in the rain, Pilates reformer sessions, and yoga as various forms of hell, emphasizing her preference for more engaging physical pursuits.

Despite her vibrant appearance and bold fashion sense, Prue refuses to conform to stereotypical notions of aging gracefully. Reflecting on her experiences as a mother and grandmother, she acknowledges the humorous moments that come with growing older, such as her grandchildren’s candid observations about her physical changes.

As a judge on “The Great British Bake Off,” Prue appreciates the evolving perceptions of aging in today’s society. She challenges outdated beliefs that limit older individuals from enjoying life to the fullest, advocating for a more vibrant and active approach to growing old.

While she acknowledges the importance of mindset, exercise, diet, and stress management in aging gracefully, Prue admits to struggling with traditional exercise routines. She gravitates towards more dynamic activities like tennis and horse riding, finding joy in the social aspects and competitive nature of these sports.

As she adapts to the physical limitations that come with aging, Prue remains resilient and open to new experiences. She recounts her adventures in sit-skiing and traveling with her husband, demonstrating a zest for life that defies traditional stereotypes of older age.

Prue Leith’s refreshing perspective on aging serves as a reminder to embrace life’s challenges and adventures with enthusiasm, regardless of one’s age or physical limitations.
