Irish band Kodaline has announced their decision to disband after a twenty-year musical journey. The quartet, consisting of Steve Garrigan, Vincent May, Mark Prendergast, and Jason Boland, will bid farewell to their fans with the release of their final album.
Following their rebranding from 21 Demands to Kodaline in 2012, the group gained popularity for their music, including the theme for TV show Gogglebox. They are set to kick off a farewell tour in Belfast on June 17 before pursuing individual projects.
Lead vocalist Steve Garrigan expressed that the band members have mutually agreed to part ways to explore new opportunities despite their long history together. Their discography includes four albums: In a Perfect World (2013), Coming Up for Air (2015), Politics of Living (2018), and One Day at a Time (2020).
Acknowledging their success with hits like All I Want and High Hopes, Kodaline expressed gratitude for the unwavering support from their fans. They emphasized the lasting impact they hope their music will have even after their departure.
Mark, a member of Kodaline, shared a personal loss due to his grandmother’s passing from Covid-19 during the global pandemic. Reflecting on the challenges, he highlighted the difficulty of not being able to physically comfort family members during such trying times.
The guitarist also revealed his own battle with the virus after experiencing symptoms upon returning home. Stressing the seriousness of the situation, he urged others to remain vigilant and cautious in the face of the ongoing pandemic.
