North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was captured smiling as he observed a newly renovated women’s spa pool in a series of unconventional images. The Supreme Leader made an appearance at the grand opening of the Onpo Workers’ Recreation Centre in North Hamgyong Province. The resort, dubbed the ‘North Korean Benidorm,’ had undergone a complete transformation following criticism from Kim back in 2018 for its poor management and outdated facilities.
At the opening ceremony, Kim expressed satisfaction with the revamped spa, praising the practical and harmonious arrangement of every section. He commended the architectural elements for blending seamlessly with the natural surroundings, contrasting it with his previous harsh critique of the site’s conditions.
Following his recent visit, Kim instructed resort officials to prepare for a full opening scheduled for the upcoming month. The spa now caters to North Korea’s elite and welcomes foreign visitors from China and Russia, offering week-long tour packages priced between $1,000 to $1,350, excluding airfare.
Kim was captured peering over the pool’s edge, smiling at the patrons, all while maintaining his signature large winter coat. Despite the warmth inside the spa building, he continued to wear the coat, maintaining his signature style throughout the tour. The leader also inspected treatment rooms and information boards within the facility, interacting with staff and guests during his visit.
The photographs showcasing Kim’s visit were released by North Korea’s official Korean Central News Agency, providing a glimpse into the leader’s engagement with the newly refurbished spa complex.
