“Miraculous Rescues: Boys Saved from Venezuela Quake Ruins”

Published on

Two young boys have been rescued from the wreckage of collapsed buildings in earthquake-stricken Venezuela, providing a glimmer of hope amidst the tragedy that has claimed 1,430 lives. Remarkable footage captures the 11-year-olds emerging from the debris of their homes, separated by hours. One of the boys, named Moises, shields his eyes from the sun, surviving four days after the series of powerful quakes shook the South American nation.

Subsequently, interim President Delcy Rodríquez confirmed the rescue of another 11-year-old boy. A video circulating on social media shows the boy being carefully carried down a massive pile of rubble on a stretcher, depicting the miraculous rescue in Caraballeda. Rodríquez expressed, “In these moments, every life represents hope for Venezuela.”

Following the back-to-back 7.2 and 7.5-magnitude earthquakes on Wednesday, the death toll stands at a minimum of 1,430, with 68,900 individuals reported missing. The strongest seismic events since 1900 have reduced towns and villages to ruins.

The initial 7.2-magnitude quake struck at 6:04 pm local time on Wednesday, swiftly followed by a 7.5-magnitude tremor 38 seconds later. Despite the epicenters being 85 miles west of Caracas, the capital city suffered significant devastation due to the sheer force of the quakes.

Rescue efforts persist 85 hours after the initial quake, with families desperately searching through debris to locate their loved ones. A rescuer disclosed that Moises was found under approximately 3 meters (9.8 feet) of rubble, requiring six hours of meticulous work to reach him.

Reports have surfaced indicating that the young boy was discovered near his deceased sister and mother. The coastal area of La Guaira, where Caraballeda is situated, has borne the brunt of the calamity.

Rescue operations have been challenged by aftershocks, instilling fear among residents. Thousands have sought refuge in their vehicles or makeshift shelters away from structures at risk of collapse. Meanwhile, a team of British crisis-response volunteers is eager to deploy to Venezuela but faces delays due to disrupted transport links caused by the earthquakes.
