“RAF Lakenheath Lockdown: Intruder Attempt Thwarted”

Published on

An airbase belonging to the RAF has been placed under lockdown in Suffolk. Security personnel at RAF Lakenheath took swift action this morning around 8am when an individual reportedly tried to gain access without proper identification.

According to a spokesperson for the airbase, which houses the 48th Fighter Wing, the individual attempted to breach Gate 2 without the required identification. The security team effectively deployed gate barriers and prevented the vehicle from entering the premises. The Ministry of Defence police subsequently took the person into custody.

RAF Lakenheath functions as the largest US Air Force (USAF) operated base in the UK and serves as the headquarters for the 48th Fighter Wing, also known as the “Liberty Wing,” operating F-15E Strike Eagles and F-35A Lightning II aircraft.

Efforts have been made to reach out to the Ministry of Defence and RAF Lakenheath for their comments on the incident.
