Desmond Morris, the renowned zoologist, has passed away at the age of 98, it was announced recently.
Morris, a well-known author and television personality associated with BBC, died in Ireland on Sunday. He dedicated his life to natural history and was famous for hosting the popular program Zoo Time. Widely recognized for his 1967 bestseller “The Naked Ape,” Morris had been residing in Ireland since his wife, Ramona, passed away in 2018.
Following his death, an outpouring of tributes flooded in, with fans fondly remembering his engaging persona. One supporter reminisced on social media, “I cherished watching him on Zoo Time when I was young.”
Born in Wiltshire in 1928, Morris developed a fascination with the animal kingdom from a young age. After serving in the British Army in 1946, he pursued studies in zoology at the University of Birmingham. Subsequently, he earned a degree and later a doctorate in animal behavior at Oxford University, where he focused on the reproductive habits of birds.
Numerous accolades poured in, with one user expressing sorrow, “RIP to the remarkable Desmond Morris at 98. A zoologist, ethnologist, prominent surrealist artist in Britain, and a cat enthusiast.”
Another shared a personal anecdote, saying, “I adored his books. Once in the 70s, I spotted him in Oxford, and I couldn’t help but wonder if I was displaying more ape-like behavior that day.”
