Consumer watchdog Which? conducted a study to rank the best and worst energy suppliers in Britain. Scottish Power landed at the bottom this time due to poor handling of complaints, although it ranked average in most other aspects. EDF Energy and British Gas also faced criticism in the analysis by Which?, joining Scottish Power in the bottom three.

On the contrary, lesser-known supplier E emerged as the top performer with an impressive overall score of 79%. Based in Birmingham, E, with over 300,000 customers, prides itself on not charging penalty fees for customers looking to switch, setting it apart from its competitors.

Octopus Energy, now the largest energy supplier in the UK, secured the second spot with a score of 74%. Alongside E, two other suppliers, 100Green and Sainsbury’s Energy, were recognized as Which? Recommended Providers.

In other news, Tesco introduced a new offer allowing Clubcard members to triple their points when converting them into vouchers for use at select restaurants, including ASK Italian, Bella Italia, and others. The initiative follows a similar deal with PizzaExpress announced before Christmas, expanding the range of participating restaurants to seven.

Meanwhile, construction firm Caldwell Construction Limited has entered administration, jeopardizing over 400 jobs. Established in 2007, the company appointed administrators at PKF Littlejohn Advisory, citing challenging market conditions in the construction sector.

Lastly, the housing market has seen a robust start to the year with a significant surge in prices. According to Rightmove, the average home price jumped by nearly £9,900 to £368,031 since December, marking the largest January increase in 25 years and the most substantial month-on-month rise since June 2015.
