Actress Selma Blair was taken into custody for allegedly causing harm to two flight attendants during a flight from Los Angeles to New York. Additionally, she faced charges for assaulting a police officer and a nurse after arriving at the hospital. The incident occurred at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport when the Delta Air Lines plane was parked at the gate.

Blair, aged 54, was apprehended around 11 p.m. ET on Sunday. Following the altercation, both Blair and one of the flight attendants were transported to the hospital for assessment. According to charging documents, a police officer reported that Blair resisted being secured to a stretcher and proceeded to kick her multiple times, causing significant pain and swelling. Subsequently, a nurse attending to Blair was also kicked in the chest, resulting in substantial pain.

She was formally charged with two counts of second-degree assault at a Queens court late Monday. During the court appearance, Blair appeared emotional, standing in handcuffs wearing jeans and a white hooded sweatshirt. Her attorney, Shawn Barnes, argued that her actions were not intentional, attributing them to missing doses of essential medication for her multiple sclerosis, compounded by exhaustion and head injury during the flight.

The judge set her bail at $20,000 cash or $60,000 bond US, scheduling the next hearing for January. Delta Airlines emphasized its zero-tolerance policy towards disruptive behavior, prioritizing the safety of passengers and crew. While details of the incident were not immediately disclosed, the airline assured cooperation with the ongoing investigation by the FBI.

In a previous in-flight incident, Blair, known for her roles in popular films like “Cruel Intentions” and “Legally Blonde,” faced issues on a flight in 2016 due to mixing alcohol with medication. Despite her recent advocacy for disability rights following her multiple sclerosis diagnosis, this incident has garnered attention for the actress’s behavior aboard the aircraft.
