On his mid-morning show on Thursday, Vernon Kay was playfully teased by his colleagues for bundling up in a hoodie to combat the chilly air conditioning at the BBC Radio 2 studios. After a song played, Vernon jokingly threatened to call out his coworkers for mocking him, exclaiming, “I’m cold!” His co-host Ellie Brennan humorously compared his appearance to a character from “Lord of the Rings,” likening him to Gollum.
Vernon explained his hoodie-clad look to listeners, stating, “I’ve got my hoodie up with my headphones on, it’s freezing.” Ellie added, “You’ve done that thing with the hoodie where you’ve pulled the strings up really tight around your face, it’s just a nose poking out!”
Expressing his discontent with the studio conditions, Vernon criticized the air conditioning, remarking, “It’s too cold in here, there’s something wrong with the air conditioning! Whoever built these studios didn’t soundproof them, and they’re freezing.”
Addressing his assistant producer Janine Maya-Smith, Vernon shared his frustration, saying, “It’s freezing and you can hear conversations in the corridor.” Janine agreed with him, confirming the cold conditions.
To lighten the mood, Ellie reassured listeners that despite the temperature issues, they have a great time at work. Vernon, slightly anxious, jokingly asked Ellie what she had heard, to which she responded innocently.
Vernon continued to express his honesty about the studio temperature, mentioning he could hear the neighboring Radio 1 show recordings. After sharing some laughs about the situation, the show moved on, and Vernon introduced Ellie’s travel report.
Recently, Vernon and his Radio 2 team attended The ARIAS where they were nominated for their coverage of the Oasis Homecoming Concert. Although they did not win, the team received recognition, with other radio programs taking home the awards.
