A disturbance at Barcelona airport caused panic among holidaymakers when a man shouted “jihadist slogans” and threw a backpack on the ground. The incident led to people running through the airport, with two individuals treated for panic attacks.

Authorities intervened by detaining the man and calling in bomb disposal experts to assess the backpack for explosives. The situation was quickly brought under control, and normal operations resumed at the airport’s T2 terminal. The man behind the disruption was identified as a 23-year-old from Honduras, although his motives remain unclear.

Despite the alarming nature of the man’s behavior, investigators have ruled out any terrorist connections. The man was arrested on suspicion of various offenses, including a public order violation, and was recommended for psychiatric evaluation. While the incident caused fear among travelers, law enforcement assured that there was no actual terrorist threat.

This incident follows previous incidents in Barcelona involving individuals making similar jihadist remarks. In a separate incident in May, a knifeman reportedly shouted jihadist comments before fatally stabbing a woman in a Barcelona suburb. The suspect was apprehended shortly after the attack.
