“Camera Traps Stolen in Hunt for Missing Capybara”

Published on

Camera traps set up to locate a missing capybara from a Hampshire zoo have been stolen, according to zoo staff. The capybara named Samba, who escaped from Marwell Zoo, remains at large despite extensive search efforts. Samba fled along with another capybara, Tango, but Tango was quickly captured. Laura Reed, the CEO of Marwell Zoo, confirmed the theft of two camera traps and urged the public to stay alert and assist in finding Samba. Multiple reported sightings of Samba have been received, but none have been confirmed. Search teams are using thermal drones and camera traps strategically, although the loss of the stolen camera traps has posed a challenge. There is also a possibility that some reported sightings may be of Muntjac deer, which are similar in appearance to Samba. Despite these obstacles, the search for Samba continues with a focus on bringing her back safely.
