“UK Braces for Snow: 27 Cities to Experience Unexpected Cold Front”

Published on

The UK is bracing for snowfall in up to 27 cities, including London, as an unexpected cold front looms.

Recent weather forecasts indicate that snow is expected to descend on May 1, starting in the far north of Scotland before moving southwards, eventually reaching the southern coast of England.

According to the ECMWF weather model, snowfall is projected to commence at around 6pm on May 1 across Scotland and parts of northern England, with cities like Aberdeen, Dundee, and Newcastle likely to witness snow before it progresses southward.

By the early hours of May 2, snow is anticipated to affect Northern Ireland, coastal areas in Wales, and the northwest of England. There is a possibility of snow reaching Brighton in the south during this period, as per the model.

Regions such as Yorkshire, the Midlands, and the southwest of England are likely to experience snow by midday on May 2, with the east coast of England also in the forecasted path of the snowfall.

London might see light snowflakes by 6pm on May 2, while the heaviest snowfall is predicted for Gloucestershire and southern Scotland around the same time.

The snow is expected to move eastward away from the UK by the evening, with only scattered flurries shown on maps in East Anglia and northern Scotland by midnight on May 2.

Over a span of 30 hours, snowfall is anticipated across 27 cities, as indicated by the ECMWF model.

The Met Office has mentioned the possibility of “wintry” showers towards the end of April and early May in certain regions. The forecast for April 23 to May 2 suggests that most areas will likely remain dry with occasional rain or showers, potentially turning wintry in parts of Scotland. Strong winds may be observed mainly along coasts in the southwest and northeast, with temperatures expected to be near normal or slightly above, except for colder conditions in the north at times.
