“Reckless Driving Duo Jailed for Fatal Manchester Crash”

Published on

Two individuals have been sentenced to prison for causing the death of Sylvester Abayomi, described by the police as one of the most severe cases of dangerous driving encountered. The fatal collision occurred on Kingsway in Manchester, resulting from the reckless actions of Uways Hussain, 20, and Usmon Mahmood, 23.

During the court proceedings, it was revealed that the two men recorded themselves speeding at up to 139mph in a 30mph zone, consistently driving well over 100mph in a Golf GTi. Their high-speed antics led to multiple instances of surpassing 130mph, culminating in a tragic collision with Mr. Abayomi’s vehicle, causing his death.

Hussain and Mahmood were sentenced at Manchester Crown Court, with Hussain receiving 11 years and eight months, and Mahmood sentenced to 12 years and nine months. The court heard that just before the crash, the Golf was clocked at 139mph, with the impact speed recorded at 99mph.

In the lead-up to the accident, Hussain exhibited reckless behavior by driving one-handed at high speeds, running red lights, weaving through traffic, and inhaling nitrous oxide while driving. This conduct was termed one of the most egregious displays of speeding by the police.

Following the collision, the men were caught discussing fleeing the scene, tampering with evidence, and considering false reporting of the incident. Despite their involvement in the crash, neither individual showed any concern for Mr. Abayomi’s well-being.

Both offenders were apprehended by the police, with Hussain found hiding in a garden and Mahmood located nearby with nitrous oxide canisters in the vicinity. The court condemned their blatant disregard for road safety and highlighted the terrifying nature of their driving captured on CCTV and mobile footage.

The judge criticized the offenders for fleeing the scene instead of offering assistance, emphasizing their callousness in the aftermath of the crash. Hussain, who admitted to causing death by dangerous driving, received a sentence of 11 years and eight months, while Mahmood, who admitted aiding and abetting the offense, was sentenced to 12 years and nine months.

Additionally, both men were handed eight-year driving bans and will be required to pass extended driving tests before regaining their licenses. Denise Doyle, Mr. Abayomi’s partner, expressed the profound impact of his loss, describing him as a caring and beloved individual.

Detective Sergeant Thomas Johnson emphasized the severity of the incident, expressing condolences to Abayomi’s family and urging the public to report dangerous driving behaviors to prevent similar tragedies.
