“Three Sisters Found Dead Off Brighton Beach”

Published on

Three sisters were found dead off Brighton beach, and the cause of their deaths remains unknown, according to an inquest. The bodies of Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walters, 32, and Rebecca Walters, 31, were discovered in the water on May 13 but could not be rescued. Their father, Joseph Jacobsen, expressed his profound sorrow at the loss of his daughters. The inquest, held at Brighton Coroner’s Court, revealed that the RNLI lifeboat recovered two bodies, while the third was washed ashore.

Although the cause of their deaths is still undetermined, authorities have ruled out any third-party involvement. The father identified the three women. The coroner acknowledged the father’s immense grief and the ongoing police investigation, urging an end to speculation on social media. The inquest was adjourned until October 8 to consolidate the investigations into all three deaths.

Joseph previously paid tribute to his daughters, describing the pain of losing them as indescribable. He emphasized the significant role his daughters played in his life, bringing joy, strength, and love to the family. The tragic loss has left an unfillable void in their lives. Notably, their mother, Janice Adetoro, died in 2010 from drowning in a Birmingham lake due to stress-related mental health issues.

The women’s relatives from Uxbridge, North West London, mentioned that they were unaware of their trip to Brighton but speculated that they might have been honoring their mother’s memory. Ajike Adetoro, their aunt, described the close bond between the sisters, highlighting their happiness and frequent communication despite living separately.

Sussex Police confirmed that the investigation into the circumstances leading to the women entering the water is ongoing. Ch Supt Adam Hays assured a thorough investigation to uncover the truth. The bodies were recovered near Brighton Marina after emergency services responded to reports of a person in distress near Black Rock.

Sian Berry, the MP for Brighton Pavilion, commended the city’s response to the tragedy, noting the community’s compassion despite limited knowledge of the women’s story.
