A remarkable heatwave that has broken records is expected to come to an end this weekend in the UK, making way for rainy and stormy weather. On Saturday, some areas of England and Wales will enjoy sunny skies and temperatures reaching up to 29C, while Northern Ireland and western Scotland are forecasted to experience wetter conditions. Sunday will see rain spread across the country, with temperatures remaining around 19C. The Met Office anticipates a gradual reduction in the widespread heatwave intensity, transitioning to cooler and unsettled weather by the weekend.
Chief Forecaster Chris Bulmer mentioned that the hot weather pattern is starting to dissipate, leading to fresher conditions by the weekend. As temperatures decrease, more changeable weather with possible showers and thunderstorms is expected. The UK recently broke its May maximum temperature record with 35.1C in London. Unfortunately, 11 individuals, including young people, have lost their lives in water-related incidents during the heatwave, prompting water safety to be a top concern.
Experts emphasize the dangers of entering open water, especially during hot weather when cold water shock can pose serious risks. Swim England urges individuals, especially less experienced swimmers, to visit managed or lifeguarded sites for a safer water experience. Prioritizing swimming lessons and water safety awareness for young people is crucial to prevent further tragedies.
